Lüllepop is a young, unique Berlin fashion label. Cathleen Reinheckel and Andre Gawanka are designing latex fashions with clever catchy combinations using textiles and latex in such a way that it’s eye catching and extravagant yet still practical and wearable.

Lüllepop gear is designed to take full advantage of the female form and lure and bedazzle the male of the species. The feminine lines are well brought together using materials such as lace, lycra, fine nappa leather or even knitted materials, all cleverly combined with latex.

Ready for the start of the 15th Erotic Fair in Berlin (Venus) Cathleen and Andre have created a fitting “Desous” collection, which will guarantee to turn some heads, especially among the men.

The “Dolcessa in autunno” collection is in colors spanning from soft Champagne tones, to warm passionate burgundy colors of a deep full bodied red wine. Lüllepop has also used lots of lace to keep the soft feminine touch and combine it with the more raunchy latex fem-dom style. G-strings & triangular bras, and an array of charming panties etc.

Micaela Schäfer models some of the Lüllepop creations on the Venus Berlin Erotic fair poster this year and it is also Lüllepop who designed the garments that Micaela will be wearing at the Venus Berlin Awards. A dream made of latex & lace.

I asked James from Ego Assassin, how they came up with this idea “We got the idea to make latex fishnets because over the years many of our customers have asked us if it was possible to make such a thing. We have always had to say no because we couldn’t think of a way to cut a fine and consistent mesh pattern into latex, and still maintain any semblance of durability. I know that many latex designers — ourselves included — have attempted to solve this problem with a variety of appliqué-based approaches, but the final product was always rather bulky and the look was never quite right.”

He continues “When Kink Engineering announced they would be offering laser-cutting services to the latex industry, one of our first thoughts was that it could be used to finally make a true fishnet latex stocking. We experimented with various laser settings, hole shapes, and mesh densities, until we arrived at a pattern that worked.”

So how the stockings are produced? James explains “The stockings are made by laying a sheet of latex into the laser machine, and cutting the whole stocking in one piece, including thousands of tiny rounded slashes. The piece is then taken out of the machine, the off-cuts are removed, and it is thoroughly cleaned. The stockings are then assembled with one seam up the back and reinforcement around the edges. The end result is a sheer, lightweight, and durable latex fishnet stocking that can be worn on its own, or shined up and paired any latex outfit.”

Pretty cool, right? The stocking are actually leg sleeves witch is a really good thing, as your tiny toes won’t get stuck in the stockings mesh and is simply much more comfortable to wear. I also believe they would also look fantastic on top of regular pair of latex stockings.

I’m sure that we have just scratched the surface of what is possible with laser cut latex, and we can expect much more on this front in the years to come!

When you compare the photos of a vintage latex grown from Pussy Cat Magazine in 1965 to the Dita Dressing Gown by Marquis of 2010, it becomes very clear that very little have changed in the latex fashion in the last 40-50 years.

Many designers had incorporated printed latex in their latex clothing designs for many years, but lately more and more printed latex fabrics are showing up among the smaller designers. I think it’s a fantastic trend there brings more diversity and style in the latex fashion community.

Collective Chaos Design is an American latex designer and photographer team with an emphasis on being environmentally friendly.  They also have Collective Chaos Magazine, their blog that encompasses all of their diverse interests. Their designs feature hand punched perforated detail and elaborate applique. They first entered the latex fetish fashion market with the Feathered Latex neck corset, an iconic piece every fetish fashion lover will recognize. The first international fashion show at Fetish Evolution 2010 impressed the European crowd with the elaborately appliqued Octopus, Poppy, Zebra, and Tiger dresses. The followup lingerie collection consisted of vintage inspired latex fashions such as high waisted panties and bullet bras, with lace inserts.

FXavier: First off, thank you, Abigail for taking the time to answer a few questions about Latex fashion and your fabulous designs.

Abigail Greydanus: Anytime!

FX: What is latex and why do you think there is such a sudden interest in latex fashion?

AG: Latex is natural rubber put through processing to create sheeting that’s then turned into clothing. I think there’s such a sudden interest in latex fashion because it’s becoming more accessible for everyone. From the celebrities that are wearing it frequently, the magazines incorporating it in their pictorials, and the tv shows and commercials that are featuring it as well, your every day fashion lover is seeing it on a regular basis now and are starting to notice that they can wear it too!

FX: How long have you been working with latex?

AG: I first started experimenting with it 4 years ago, and I’ve been working with it full time for the last 2+ years.

FX: What drew you to this unique material and how did you come to design latex fashions?

AG: I first discovered latex when I was in college studying fashion design. I wanted to learn to work with a unique material after graduating, and I was a bit of a “goth kid” at the time so I found out about it reading alternative magazines and going to clubs, I really fell in love with the material.
